Futuretrack 2006 gives university applicants a chance to get ahead in financial stakes
Students applying to start university this autumn could give their bank balance a healthy boost by taking part in Futuretrack 2006 – a groundbreaking research project that will assess their career motivations and influences from initial university application right through to their first jobs.
The online survey, the largest of its kind ever, has been commissioned by HECSU, the Higher Education Careers Services Unit. Nearly 500,000 people have applied for university places this year and all are being invited to participate in the survey and most will be contacted by UCAS, the University and Colleges Admissions Service, by email over the next few weeks.
Recognising that managing finances is a major issue for students, HECSU has provided a £40k cash pot which will be allocated via a prize draw amongst participants as encouragement to take part and stay the course. The draw will be made on 31st October 2006 and comprise twenty cash prizes of £1000 and forty of £500.
“This is a great opportunity for aspiring students: by taking part in this research, they not only have the chance to top up their finances, but their responses will greatly shape the provision of first rate careers information, advice and guidance for future generations of students,” said Mike Hill, chief executive , HECSU.
Futuretrack 2006 will assess the vast range of influences on students career choices and progression: these will include, amongst others, home background, the influence of friends and teachers, attitudes towards subject of study - good at it, passionate about it, or both - through to views on work experience, gap years, and the whole job search process.
